Trap and Paint (on a Budget)

Trap N Paint (On a Budget)

Let me confess upfront: "I don't know what I am doing!"

I am not a professional event planner. I am just a simple woman, who likes to try new things with my friends, and I usually do it within a budget of some sort.
(Whew! ... Now, I feel better! I'm glad I got that off my chest!)

A lot of the 'events' that I plan, are for my inner circle of friends. Those special women in my life, that are very 'forgiving' of my short comings! They indulged that side of me that like to 'try' different things! That being said, I should also tell you, that I don't normally tell them 'what' we would be doing at one of my events! I keep everything a secret. ... So they are constantly surprise at the outcome! 😁

January's "Boujie on a Budget" event ... is none other than ... Trap and Paint! (Trap N' Paint)

A little over year ago, I was on Facebook, when I came across a video of a trap and paint event! ... Now, although I am not familiar with trap music, the whole event looked like fun! It was a twist on the whole 'sip and paint' idea that I was use to seeing, but with a much more urban flavor!

So naturally, of course, I had to re-create a budget friendly version, for my friends and I to try! So here is what I did.

My whole plan involve 7 steps:

1. Pick an activity and date!

As I mentioned, Trap N Paint was the theme of this nights event, and I chose to do it on the 3rd Saturday in the month.

2. Choose how many persons you want to participate.

Originally I decided on 4 persons which included myself, but by the end of my planning, it turned into 8 participants, along with the painting instructor.

3. Decide on a budget.

Since this event was going to be held in January, (you know, the month after the Christmas season), let's be honest funding tends to be a little tight around this time of the year, I ended up budgeting $150 for everything in total. (Please take into consideration that I live on a tropical island, so supplies of any sort tend to be on the expensive size, in comparison to maybe those found in the USA, or the UK, or other countries around the world.)

4. Choose a location.

If you plan ahead, you can usually find that you have a variety of options when it comes to finding locations for your events. (For example: community centers; homes of friends; auditoriums; etc.)  I took in the size of the group, and felt that renting a large location was not necessary. I eventually ended up setting up in a classroom at the school where I worked for FREE!! 😀 (This was heaven sent because it allowed me to transfer money to other areas.)

5. Choose the most important parts of the event you would like to recreate.

I took the time to watch a couple of 'trap n' paint' videos on Youtube and Facebook, so I was able to gather, which I felt were important, highlights of going to an event like this. Here is what my list consist of:

A. - Trap music! (Hence the word 'Trap' in Trap N' Paint)
B. - A Picture to copy and paint.

(I chose this one off of Google Images - original owner unknown)

C. - Paint supplies and canvases

I bought the acrylic paints, and canvas panels from my local art supply store. The easels were donated from the art teacher, who also helped me by offering to be our paint instructor for the night. She's really good! She personally host 'At Home Paint Events', so naturally she was the person I asked to help me bring out our 'hidden' talents! Here is a glimpse at her Facebook page.

In case you don't have the time to go to the art store, and look for each, item for the party. Here is a nice 'art party kit' that I found on Amazon, with pretty much everything you may need to create a party of your own, maybe even 2!

D. - Drinks, Food, and Decorations

Food consisted of the easiest thing I could think of ... delivery pizza! I also picked up a variety of snacks, that I used to create a 'do it yourself' party favor pack.

As for the drinks, I told my guest is was a B.Y.O.B. (Bring Your Own Bottle) type night! But I also stocked a small cooler with additional sodas and water, for everyone as well.

6. Get creative in all areas where necessary.

Here is a glimpse of some of my creative touches:

(Here is the invitation I created using Canva)

As I mentioned before, I like to have my friends 'guessing' what we are doing, so I sent this invitation a couple of weeks in advance via text to each of them, with a note saying we will be listening to a 'lecture'. 😉

I arrived an hour earlier to help set up the classroom.

(Table set up)

 (Do It Yourself 'Snackable' table.)

(Each canvas had a pre-traced outline of the picture we would be painting)

Once supplies were in place, I turned on the music via cellphone connected to speakers. My guests arrived, and need I tell you, they were 'shocked'!
(Can you tell they were happy about coming to the event!😀)

Once everyone arrived, and drinks were served, the painting began, and we had a grand time!

We were encouraged

7. Have Fun!

This step was as always the easiest one to accomplish. By the end of the night, everyone had a 'masterpiece' created just for themselves!
